Cut

GML have two beam saws for cutting boards a Selco and a Homag. The Selco is able to take 3660mm x 1830mm sheets and the Homag 2440mm x 1830mm. When combined with Cutrite software these saws are able to cut high volumes of board using cutting pattern that are both fast and make efficient use of the material.

Clash

The Shark by Ott is a linear edgebander for up to 2mm PVC tape or thicker wood grain or other solid surfaces. Equipped with a return table that directs finish product back to the operator this machine can be operated by just one skilled person.

The Twister by Ott is also a linear edgebanner for clashing up to 10mm solid wood, PVC and laminate. This machine is also fitted with a return table for one person operation.

Drilling / CNC

GML have the following CNC controlled routers / drilling machines:

1. The Homag BAZ series CNC router is able to Route and Bore boards as well as edge tape them in one process. A part can have holes drilled in it, the edge cut to shape and then edge taped in up to 2mm PVC tape. This machine allows the taping of curved edges for desk tops, kitchen benches or table tops and any number of other shaped parts.

2. Weeke point to point, primarily used for high speed drilling and machining of cut boards. This machine is less than 2 years old.

3. The Biesse Skipper is our newest CNC Drilling machine. Just a few months old and the first of its type in New Zealand it is capable of very high speed drilling of panels. The skipper is unique as it can bore both side of a panel at the same time or take two panels at a time for drilling mirrored panels or panels that differ. This ability dramatically reduces the time taken to machine a production run.

4. The Rover 336 is an older point to point drilling machine that has been superseded by the Skipper. It is a reliable old machine so when work load is heavy it is still called into service.

5-axis

The Chronos 5-axis Router from Routech is one of the largest machines of its type in New Zealand. Just 18 months old it is one of the newest and most advanced routers in the country. With an internal volume of 5m x 2m x 1m this machine is capable of machining large moulds in one piece that others would divide in to many parts.

GML have experience in machining a range of materials including:

- Polyurethane foam – mould making for fiber glassing
- Laminated MDF – used as moulds for vacuum forming or may be used as finished product when sealed or painted.
- Aluminum alloys – sheets cut and bored or blocks.
- Solid timber – Pine, Mahogany, Jarrah, etc or laminated blocks.

The Chronos has two independently controlled Vacuum tables that can move in and out of the machine. Each can take a full sheet (2440mm x 1830mm) of board which can be cut and bored in one process. One table can be machining while the other is unloaded of finished parts and a new sheet put on.
